Description

Bedrock is an unbreakable block in survival play that forms the bottom and top boundaries of the overworld and nether in standard world generation. It prevents players from falling out of the world and defines the limits of the playable area. Bedrock cannot be mined or moved in normal survival conditions and it is only available to map makers and server operators through special commands or in creative mode. Because of its indestructible nature bedrock is used to create secure foundations in adventure maps and to block access to outside areas in custom servers. The block has a patterned dark texture and it stands out as a solid immutable surface that marks the edge of the world. When building map scenarios bedrock is a reliable way to create safe unbreakable floors and walls and to prevent players from breaking the rules or leaving the designed map area. It is also used in technical builds by players who want a stable surface for redstone heavy machines and for farms that must not be altered by common actions. Bedrock is a key material in the structure of the world but due to its unbreakable nature it is not used in regular building for players in survival mode.

What is Bedrock?

Bedrock is the indestructible boundary block found at the edges of the world in normal worlds. It cannot be broken in survival and serves to prevent players from leaving the playable area. It is a central part of world generation and is used by map makers to control boundaries.

Where to find Bedrock

Bedrock appears at the bottom of the overworld at the lowest layers and at the top of the nether roof and sometimes as patches in world generation depending on the version. It forms a non traversable layer that keeps players within the designed world limits and helps define the space where normal gameplay occurs.

How to get Bedrock

In survival mode bedrock cannot be obtained or mined. In creative mode you can take bedrock from the inventory and in command enabled servers use give commands to place it. Map makers and server owners use commands to add bedrock where needed to define boundaries and to prevent unintended access.
