Description
End portal frames are the ring of twelve special blocks that form the structure for an end portal inside a stronghold. Each frame can hold an eye of ender and once all frames are filled the portal field activates. The frames look like decorated stone blocks with a place for the eye and they are fixed in the stronghold portal room where they act as the gateway to the End dimension. You cannot craft end portal frames in normal survival play and they are typically only found in strongholds which makes them part of the rare architecture that hides the path to the ender dragon. Because these frames are not movable you use eyes of ender to activate them where they sit. The frames form the boundary of the portal and their arrangement matters because the portal only appears when the full circle is complete. In map making and server administration the frames can be placed in custom setups but in vanilla survival finding them is a key moment of progression.
What is End Portal Frame?

Where to find End Portal Frame
End portal frames are always found in the portal rooms of strongholds which are located underground in the overworld. They are part of the stronghold generation that hides the access to the End and they sit in the room with the portal until players activate them.
How to get End Portal Frame
In normal survival play you cannot obtain end portal frames as items. They are fixed in the stronghold portal room and breaking them will drop nothing in many game versions. In creative mode or with server commands you can obtain and place portal frames directly, but in vanilla survival the frames remain as part of the structure that you activate to open the portal.

How to use End Portal Frame
Use end portal frames by placing an eye of ender into each frame until the portal activates. Once all frames are filled the dark portal field appears and you can step in to travel to the End. Since the frames are not craftable you focus on finding the stronghold and then activating the frames rather than trying to move them. For custom maps and servers frames are often used to set up adventure areas and to control how players reach the End.
