Description

Farmland is the prepared planting surface used for growing crops such as wheat carrots potatoes beetroot and other cultivated plants. It is created by using a hoe on dirt or grass and it changes the top layer into a soft tilled soil that is ready for planting seeds. Farmland has a visual difference from plain dirt because it shows plough like lines that signal it has been prepared for agriculture. Proper farmland needs water nearby to stay hydrated which keeps it productive and prevents crops from drying out. Hydrated farmland is crucial for good yields especially when you plant lots of crops in a single area. Players rely on farmland to create steady food supplies and to set up automatic crop farms that can harvest or replant with redstone and villagers. Because farmland can revert to dirt if left unmaintained or if mobs jump on it players often protect their plots with fences gates and lighting to help crops grow reliably. For a new player setting up a simple farm is one of the first major projects because food supply and renewable resources become important early in the game. Farmland is a small but vital block that supports the agricultural lifestyle of many players and it forms the basis of farming communities and village like plots.

What is Farmland?

Farmland is a tilled soil block that you make with a hoe. It is the surface that seeds need to be planted on to grow into crops. The block needs hydration from nearby water and protection from trampling to keep crops alive. It is a core block for farming and food production in the game.

Where to find Farmland

Farmland is usually player made and appears in village farms and in player bases where crops are grown. Sometimes villages have pre existing farmland patches near houses and fields which gives new players a place to trade and to find food. Outside of villages farmland does not naturally form so you prepare it from dirt or grass with a hoe in whatever biome you need to grow crops.

How to get Farmland

To create farmland use a hoe on a dirt or grass block which converts the block to tilled soil. Keep water close by to hydrate it and plant seeds directly on the surface. If you do not want to till a large area manually use villagers or automatic setups to help with planting and harvest. In creative mode you can place farmland directly from the inventory for building farms quickly.
