What is Grindstone in Minecraft?
A grindstone is a utility block that looks like a spinning stone wheel in a wooden frame. It has two main functions, both related to items and enchantments. Its first purpose is to repair tools, weapons, and armor by combining two of the same item. Its second, and more unique, purpose is to remove all non curse enchantments from a single item. This is very useful if you get a bad combination of enchantments from an enchanting table and want to try again. The grindstone also serves as the job site block for the weaponsmith villager. It is a very useful block for managing your gear and getting a little bit of experience back in the process.
How to get Grindstone in Minecraft
There are two main ways to get a grindstone. The first and most common way is to craft it. The crafting recipe is fairly simple. You will need two sticks, one stone slab, and two wooden planks of any type. You can get sticks and planks from any tree. You can get a stone slab by crafting it from three stone blocks, which you get by smelting cobblestone. Once you have your materials, open a crafting table. Place the two sticks on the left and right sides of the top row. Place the stone slab in the top middle slot, directly between the two sticks. Then, place the two wooden planks below the sticks, in the left and right slots of the middle row. This will create one grindstone. The second way is to find one. Grindstones generate naturally inside weaponsmith houses in villages. You can simply break it with a pickaxe to collect it.
How to use Grindstone in Minecraft
To use a grindstone, place it down and right click it. You will see an interface with two input slots and one output slot. To repair an item, place two damaged items of the same type (like two iron pickaxes) into the two input slots. The output slot will show a repaired item with more durability. To remove enchantments, place a single enchanted item into either of the input slots. The output slot will show the same item but with all of its enchantments removed (except for curses like Curse of Vanishing). Using the grindstone in either way will give you back a small amount of experience, based on how valuable the enchantments were. It is also the job site block for the weaponsmith villager, who you can trade with for weapons and minerals.
