This allows for the creation of secret doors that open by turning a page, or other clever redstone contraptions.
How to get Lectern in Minecraft
There are two main ways to get a lectern. The first way is to find one. Lecterns generate naturally in the libraries of villages and strongholds. You can simply break it with an axe to collect it. The second, and more common way, is to craft it. The crafting recipe is fairly simple. You will need four wooden slabs of any type and one bookshelf. You can craft wooden slabs from wooden planks. To craft a bookshelf, you will need six wooden planks and three books. Once you have your materials, open a crafting table. Place the four wooden slabs in a T shape, with three across the top row and one in the center middle slot. Then, place the single bookshelf in the slot directly below it, in the bottom middle slot. This will create one lectern.
How to use Lectern in Minecraft
The main use for a lectern is to hold a book and quill or a written book. To do this, simply right click on the lectern with the book in your hand. The book will then be placed on the stand. Any player can then right click the lectern to read the book. This is great for sharing stories or rules on a multiplayer server. The other major use is to give a villager a job. If you place a lectern near an unemployed villager, they will become a librarian. Librarians are highly sought after because they can trade for enchanted books, including treasure enchantments like Mending. For redstone engineers, you can place a redstone comparator behind a lectern. The comparator will output a signal strength based on which page the book is open to, allowing for some very creative secret switches.
