What is Nether Wart in Minecraft?
Nether Wart is a very important plant like item in Minecraft that is essential for brewing potions. It is the primary ingredient for creating an Awkward Potion, which is the base for almost every useful potion in the game, including potions of healing, strength, fire resistance, and many more. Without Nether Wart, you cannot get started with alchemy and potion making. It is a strange looking, reddish plant that only grows on soul sand. Because of its crucial role in brewing, finding and farming Nether Wart is a major goal for any player who wants to gain the powerful advantages that potions can provide. It is also used to craft red nether bricks, a decorative building block.
How to get Nether Wart in Minecraft
The only place to find Nether Wart naturally is in the Nether dimension. Specifically, you need to look for two types of structures: Nether fortresses and bastion remnants. Nether fortresses are large, dark brick structures where you can find small gardens of Nether Wart growing on soul sand, often near staircases. Bastion remnants are large, blackstone structures that can also contain Nether Wart farms in their courtyards. When you find a Nether Wart farm, you can break the fully grown plants to harvest the Nether Wart. A fully grown plant will drop two to four Nether Warts. Once you have your first few pieces, you can take them back to your base and start your own farm, so you do not have to keep returning to the dangerous Nether for more.
How to use Nether Wart in Minecraft
To farm Nether Wart, you need to place some soul sand blocks. Soul sand is a common block found in the Nether, especially in soul sand valleys. Nether Wart can be planted on soul sand in any dimension, it does not need to be in the Nether. Simply hold the Nether Wart and right click on a soul sand block to plant it. The plant will then go through four growth stages. You can tell it is fully grown when the "warts" are large and dark red. Unlike other crops, Nether Wart does not need water or light to grow, and its growth cannot be sped up with bone meal. Once it is fully grown, you can harvest it to get more Nether Wart. To use it in brewing, place a water bottle in a brewing stand and add the Nether Wart as the top ingredient to create an Awkward Potion.
