Only Drowned that naturally spawn holding a Trident have a small chance of dropping it when they are defeated. The chance is very low, only 8.5%. You can increase this chance by using a sword with the Looting enchantment. The best way to farm for a Trident is to find an ocean biome and hunt for Drowned at night or in deep, dark parts of the water. It can take a long time to find one, but the reward is well worth the effort. In Bedrock Edition, Drowned can also spawn from regular zombies that drown.

To use the Trident as a melee weapon, you just swing it like a sword. To throw it, hold down the right mouse button to charge it up, and then release to throw it.
