The number one use for blue ice is to build super fast boat highways. By creating a one or two block wide channel of blue ice, you can travel in a boat at incredible speeds, covering huge distances in a very short amount of time. This is especially useful in the Nether, where one block of travel is equal to eight blocks in the Overworld. Because blue ice does not melt, you can safely light up your ice roads with torches. Another use for blue ice is in creating basalt generators. When lava flows over soul soil that is next to blue ice, it creates basalt blocks, giving you a renewable source of that building material.
