Description

An observer is a redstone component that detects block updates and emits a short redstone pulse. It is often used in redstone machines to detect crop growth, to trigger pistons and to make fast timing circuits. The observer watches the block in front of it and when that block changes the observer sends a quick signal from its back face which can power redstone wiring and devices. Observers are essential in many automated farms where they sense changes like melon growth or plant growth and trigger harvesting mechanisms immediately. Because they are precise and fast they are a favourite with players who design compact and reliable redstone systems.

What is Observer?

An observer is a redstone block that senses changes in neighbouring blocks and outputs a short pulse. Use it to detect growth, movement and state changes and to trigger devices automatically.

Where to find Observer

Observers are crafted by players using redstone and quartz and are commonly found in automated farms and redstone builds. They are not generated naturally in the wild.

How to get Observer

Craft an observer using redstone dust, cobblestone and nether quartz at a crafting table. Place it facing the block you want to monitor and use the output to power redstone.

Release Information

First introduced: Observer was added to give players more automation options with block state detection
