What Is Bee Nest in Minecraft?

A Bee Nest is a natural home for bees that generates on certain trees near flowers. Up to 3 bees live inside and go out to collect pollen, slowly filling the nest with honey. When the honey level reaches 5, you can harvest it!

How Does Bee Nest Work?

  • Up to 3 bees live inside and fly out to collect pollen from flowers.
  • Each bee that returns raises the honey level by 1 (with a small chance of +2).
  • Once the honey level hits 5, golden drips appear on the outside - it is ready to harvest.
  • If you harvest or break it without calming the bees, they will sting you.
  • Place a lit Campfire within 5 blocks directly below the nest to calm the bees so they won't attack.

How to Collect Bee Nest

  • Use an axe with Silk Touch to collect the nest with its bees still inside. Breaking it without Silk Touch destroys the nest and drops nothing.
  • Bees inside a Silk Touch-broken nest stay calm and don't attack.

Where Does Bee Nest Generate?

  • Attached to oak, birch and cherry trees that grew within 2 blocks of a flower (5% chance).
  • Attached to mangrove trees grown from propagules (1% chance, no flower needed).
  • Most common in meadow biomes (100% chance on trees) and flower forests.

How to Use Bee Nest

How to Harvest Honey Bottle

  • Right-click the nest with an empty Glass Bottle when the honey level is 5.
  • Light a Campfire within 5 blocks below first - it calms the bees so they won't attack.

How to Harvest Honeycomb

  • Right-click the nest with Shears when the honey level is 5 - you get 3 Honeycomb.
  • Again, a Campfire below keeps the bees calm.

Bee Nest Tips

  • You can automate harvesting with a Dispenser loaded with bottles or shears, powered by Redstone.
  • In Java Edition a carpet over the campfire still lets the smoke through. In Bedrock Edition a carpet blocks the smoke.
  • Move a nest to a better location by breaking it with Silk Touch and placing it near your flower farm.
