What Is Black Concrete in Minecraft?

Black Concrete is a very smooth, deep black building block. It is made automatically when Black Concrete Powder (a gravity-affected block) comes into contact with water. Unlike wool, it will not catch fire - making it great for builds where fire safety matters.

How Does Black Concrete Work?

  • It forms when Black Concrete Powder touches water (flowing water, a water source, or a waterlogged block).
  • It is harder than stone and gives a very clean, solid appearance.
  • It requires a pickaxe to mine - breaking it without one drops nothing.
  • Not flammable - fire and lava cannot spread from it.

How to Get Black Concrete

How to Make Black Concrete

  • First craft Black Concrete Powder (4 Sand + 4 Gravel + 1 Black Dye = 8 powder).
  • Place the powder next to or in water - it instantly turns into Black Concrete.

How to Mine Black Concrete

  • Use any pickaxe - wooden or better. Breaking it without a pickaxe drops nothing.

How to Use Black Concrete

Building with Black Concrete

  • Perfect for sleek, modern builds - the rich black colour has no grain or noise like wool or terracotta.
  • Great for contrast walls, floors and accent details.
  • Mix with White Concrete for a sharp black-and-white design.

Black Concrete Tips

  • Place concrete powder in a water stream to convert large amounts automatically.
  • Not fireproof - this refers to Black Concrete. The powder can burn if it contacts fire before touching water.
