What Is Grass Block in Minecraft?

Grass Block is one of the most iconic blocks in Minecraft, forming the green surface of most overworld biomes. The top is covered in green grass and the sides show a mix of grass and dirt. It spreads to adjacent Dirt blocks if there is enough light.

How Does Grass Block Work?

  • Fastest to break with a shovel. Breaking without Silk Touch drops Dirt.
  • Use Silk Touch to collect the Grass Block itself.
  • Grass spreads to adjacent Dirt blocks when light level is 9 or above.
  • If a block is placed on top, the grass dies and it becomes Dirt.
