What Is Kelp in Minecraft?

Kelp is a tall underwater plant that grows from the ocean floor toward the surface. Each piece of Kelp can be broken to collect it. Smelting it creates Dried Kelp which can be eaten, and Dried Kelp Blocks can be used as furnace fuel. Kelp also converts still water into flowing water source blocks as it grows.

How Does Kelp Work?

  • Grows upward from the ocean floor up to 26 blocks tall.
  • Breaking any part of the kelp plant causes the pieces above it to also break.
  • Can be smelted in a Furnace to create Dried Kelp (food).
  • Converts water around it into water source blocks as it grows.
