What Is Podzol in Minecraft?

Podzol is a dark soil block found naturally in Mega Taiga (Giant Spruce Taiga and Mega Spruce Taiga) biomes. Mushrooms, Fungi and certain plants can grow on Podzol in any light level, including in full daylight. Without Silk Touch it drops Dirt when broken. It does not spread to adjacent blocks.

How to Break Podzol

  • Break with a Wooden Shovel or better for fastest collection.
  • Use a Silk Touch Shovel to collect the Podzol block itself. Without Silk Touch it drops Dirt.
  • Found naturally in Mega Taiga biomes.
