What Is Rooted Dirt in Minecraft?

Rooted Dirt is a dirt block with dangling roots hanging from its underside. It generates naturally beneath Azalea Trees and in the ceiling of lush caves. It does not grow grass and hanging roots extend downward from its bottom face.

How Does Rooted Dirt Work?

  • Has hanging roots that dangle from the bottom face.
  • Does not grow grass - stays as Rooted Dirt.
  • Using Bone Meal on it drops a Hanging Roots item and converts it to regular Dirt.

  • Use a Wooden Shovel or better for fastest breaking. Can also be broken by hand.
  • Found below Azalea Trees and in the ceiling of lush cave biomes.
