What Is Sugar Cane in Minecraft?

Sugar Cane is a tall green plant that grows naturally beside rivers, lakes and other water bodies. It grows on Sand, Red Sand, Dirt, Grass and Podzol that is directly adjacent to water. It can grow up to 3 blocks tall and is an important resource for making Sugar, Paper and Books.

How Does Sugar Cane Work?

  • Grows on Sand or Dirt blocks adjacent to water.
  • Grows one block taller over time, up to a maximum of 3 blocks.
  • Breaking the bottom block destroys all blocks above it.
  • Bone Meal cannot be used on Sugar Cane in Java Edition.
