What Is Armadillo in Minecraft?
Armadillos are small, armored, passive mobs found in dry, hot biomes. They're the source of Armadillo Scutes, which are needed to craft Wolf Armor.
What Can Armadillos Do in Minecraft?
- When threatened by an undead mob, a sprinting player, or sudden damage, an Armadillo rolls into a ball. While rolled up, it takes less damage and can even be rolled around like a ball.
- It stays curled up for a few seconds after the danger passes before unrolling again.
- Spiders and Cave Spiders flee from an unrolled Armadillo that gets within 6 blocks of them.
- An Armadillo naturally grows a Scute every 5 to 10 minutes, which drops off on its own.
- Using a Brush on an Armadillo also gives you a Scute without having to wait.
- Feeding two Armadillos Spider Eyes puts them into love mode for breeding.
Why Keep Armadillos?
- Scutes are the only way to craft Wolf Armor, making a small Armadillo pen very useful if you keep tamed Wolves.
- Since Scutes regrow on their own, a few Armadillos give you a steady, renewable supply without needing to kill them.
How to Breed Armadillos
- Feed two adult Armadillos a Spider Eye each to put them into love mode.
- Armadillos will follow you while you hold Spider Eyes nearby, which makes it easy to lead them into a pen.
- A baby takes 20 minutes to grow up, and each Spider Eye you feed it takes 10% off the time left.
- Parents have to wait 5 minutes before they can breed again.
