What Is Bee in Minecraft?

Bees are small, fuzzy, neutral mobs that live in nests and hives, pollinate crops, and give you Honey if you treat them well.

What Can Bees Do in Minecraft?

  • Bees fly between flowers during the day, collecting nectar before heading back to their nest or hive.
  • A Bee carrying nectar speeds up the growth of nearby crops as it flies over them.
  • Each trip home with nectar raises the nest or hive's honey level. Once it's full, Shears give you Honeycomb and a Glass Bottle gives you a Honey Bottle.
  • Bees return home at night and during rain, and need to rest there for a couple of minutes before heading out again.
  • If you attack a Bee, destroy its nest, or take honey without lighting a Campfire underneath first, nearby Bees get angry and swarm you.
  • A Bee that successfully stings you loses its stinger and dies shortly after, so an angry swarm doesn't last forever.

How to Breed Bees

  • Feed Bees any flower to put them into love mode for breeding.
  • Two Bees in love mode near each other produce a baby Bee.

How to Fight Bees

  • Light a Campfire under a nest or hive before collecting Honey or Honeycomb. The smoke keeps the Bees calm so they won't attack you.
  • Moving away and waiting lets an angry swarm calm back down after 20 to 40 seconds if none of them manage to sting you.
  • Wearing a full set of armor helps protect you from the Poison their sting causes.

How to Stay Safe from Bees

  • Bees are neutral, but attacking one makes all the Bees nearby angry.
  • A sting poisons you for 10 seconds on Normal difficulty, or 18 seconds on Hard. The Bee dies soon after stinging.
  • Collecting honey or honeycomb angers Bees unless a Campfire is placed within 5 blocks below the nest or hive.
  • Breaking a nest or hive makes the Bees angry. Break it with Silk Touch to move it with the Bees safely inside.

Why Keep Bees?

  • A full hive gives Honey Bottles when you use a Glass Bottle on it, and Honeycomb when you use Shears.
  • Bees pollinate crops below them, such as wheat, carrots, potatoes, beetroots, melon and pumpkin stems, and sweet berry bushes, which helps them grow.
  • Place a Campfire under the hive so you can collect honey without making the Bees angry.
