What Is Bogged in Minecraft?
The Bogged is a mossy, mushroom-covered skeleton found in swamps and mangrove swamps. Unlike a regular Skeleton, the Bogged shoots Arrows of Poison that can leave you weakened even after the arrow hits. You can even shear it with a pair of Shears to collect mushrooms before it attacks you.
What Can Bogged Do in Minecraft?
- The Bogged fires both regular arrows and poisoned arrows. The Arrows of Poison deal 3 HP of poison damage over 4 seconds on top of the initial arrow hit.
- It shoots slightly slower than a Skeleton, giving you a tiny bit more time to dodge between shots.
- Like all undead mobs, healing potions hurt it and harming potions heal it. The Wither ignores it completely.
- Right-clicking a Bogged with Shears removes its mushrooms and gives you 2 mushrooms (red or brown, randomly). You can only do this once per Bogged.
- A Bogged can pick up weapons, armor, and shields from the ground. Once it has equipped something, it will not despawn.
- In Bedrock Edition, spiders in swamps have a 1% chance to turn into a spider jockey with a Bogged as the rider instead of a Skeleton.
How to Fight Bogged
- Bring a Milk Bucket to cancel the poison effect after an arrow hit, or a Honey Bottle which also cures poison.
- Close the distance quickly. Bogged aim is less accurate at short range and their slower fire rate gives you windows to attack.
- Use a Shield to block arrows while you approach. Once in melee range the ranged attack becomes useless.
- The Smite enchantment on a sword deals extra damage to Bogged because they are undead.
- Shear the Bogged first for free mushrooms before finishing it off, if you have Shears handy.
How to Stay Safe from Bogged
- Bogged spawn at light level 0 in swamps and mangrove swamps. Placing torches or lanterns around your base at the swamp edge prevents them from spawning nearby.
- Build a fence or wall around your camp when travelling through swampy biomes, especially at night.
- Sleep in a Bed at night to skip the dark hours when Bogged and other hostile mobs spawn.
- In Trial Chambers, watch for trial spawners enclosed in chiseled tuff blocks as those can produce Bogged alongside other mobs.
