What Is Cod in Minecraft?

The Cod is a common fish that swims in schools throughout most ocean biomes. It's one of the easiest fish to find and catch, whether you use a Fishing Rod or simply scoop one up with a Water Bucket to carry it around or drop it somewhere else.

What Can Cod Do in Minecraft?

• Cod swim together in schools of up to 9 fish, so finding one usually means several more are close by.
• Right-clicking a Cod with a Water Bucket picks it up, turning it into a Bucket of Cod you can carry and place down anywhere there's water.
• Out of water, a Cod flops around and will eventually suffocate if it isn't returned to water within about 10 seconds.
• Unlike many passive mobs, Cod cannot be bred at all. Their numbers only grow through natural spawning.
• Axolotls will attack Cod on sight if the two are in the same water.

Why Keep Cod?

• Cod are an easy, renewable food source since you can catch them with a Fishing Rod or collect a whole bucket to keep near your base.
• Raw or cooked Cod can be used to tame and breed Cats and Ocelots, and to feed Dolphins so they lead you to treasure.
• Keeping a Bucket of Cod handy means you'll always have fish on hand without needing to go fishing every time.
