What Is Cow in Minecraft?
Cows are gentle, passive mobs that wander grassy biomes and can be milked or bred for food and resources.
What Can Cows Do in Minecraft?
- Cows wander around grassy areas, grazing and mooing, and keep away from drops and fall damage on their own.
- They follow a player holding Wheat from up to 6 blocks away, which is how you lead them into a pen.
- Right-clicking a Cow with an empty Bucket gives you a Bucket of Milk, which cures poison and some potion effects.
- Shearing a Mooshroom turns it into a regular Cow, though a Cow can never turn back into a Mooshroom.
- A Cow struck by damage runs away for a few seconds before calming down.
How to Breed Cows
- Feed two Cows Wheat to put them into love mode and produce a baby Cow.
- Baby Cows take about 20 minutes to grow up, and feeding them Wheat speeds up their growth.
- Breeding gives you a small amount of experience each time.
Why Keep Cows?
- Cows are one of the easiest renewable food sources, dropping Raw Beef when killed.
- They also drop Leather, used for crafting armor, books, and item frames.
- Breeding a small herd in a fenced pen gives you a steady supply of both food and Leather.
- Milk is handy to keep on hand since it clears bad potion effects instantly.
