What Is Creaking in Minecraft?
The Creaking is an eerie wooden mob that haunts the Pale Garden at night. It cannot be hurt directly at all. The only way to defeat it is by finding and destroying the Creaking Heart it's connected to. As long as you're looking right at it, a Creaking will freeze in place, but the moment you look away, it can chase you down quickly.
What Can Creakings Do in Minecraft?
- A linked Creaking takes no damage from any attack. The only way to destroy it is by breaking its Creaking Heart.
- While you are looking directly at an alerted Creaking, it freezes completely and cannot move toward you.
- The moment you look away, an alerted Creaking chases you down faster than a Vindicator.
- Every Creaking is tethered to its Creaking Heart and cannot move more than 32 blocks away from it. Push it past that limit and it dies instantly.
- Hitting a linked Creaking at night causes Resin to grow on nearby Pale Oak logs.
- Naturally spawned Creakings vanish at daybreak and only return again at night.
How to Fight Creakings
- Don't bother attacking the Creaking itself since it can't be hurt. Find the Creaking Heart instead and smash that to destroy it.
- Keep the Creaking in your sight as much as possible to freeze it in place while you retreat or find its heart.
- Watch for a glowing block between two matching Pale Oak logs or planks. That's the Creaking Heart controlling the mob.
How to Stay Safe from Creakings
- Avoid wandering through Pale Garden biomes at night until you're ready, since that's the only place and time Creakings appear.
- If you see one freeze when you look at it, back away slowly while keeping your eyes on it rather than turning your back.
- Destroy any Creaking Heart you find during the day while the linked Creaking is gone, so it can never spawn again.
