What Is Ghast in Minecraft?
The Ghast is a large, floating mob that drifts through the Nether, crying out before it fires explosive Fireballs at anything nearby. It is slow and defenseless up close, but dangerous from a distance.
What Can Ghasts Do in Minecraft?
- Floats aimlessly and makes a sad crying sound that can be heard from far away
- Opens its eyes and mouth before firing a Fireball roughly every 3 seconds
- Needs a clear line of sight to shoot and can hit a target up to 64 blocks away
- Takes no damage from fire or lava, and can even sink into lava and pass through lava waterfalls
- Can destroy Turtle eggs simply by hovering over them
How to Fight Ghasts
- Hit an incoming Fireball with a sword, arrow, or thrown item to knock it back at the Ghast
- A deflected Fireball that hits the Ghast deals huge damage and can kill it in one hit
- If a Ghast is close by when its own Fireball explodes, the blast can hurt the Ghast too
How to Stay Safe from Ghasts
- Build solid walls or ceilings when exploring the Nether to block Fireballs before they reach you
- Ghasts need a clear line of sight to fire, so staying behind blocks keeps you safe
- Listen for the crying sound so you know a Ghast is nearby before it spots you
