What Is Ocelot in Minecraft?
The Ocelot is a shy, passive jungle animal that darts away from players, but can be won over with patience and a bit of fish.
What Can Ocelots Do in Minecraft?
- Ocelots are naturally skittish and run from players and most mobs long before you get close.
- They sometimes stalk and pounce on Chickens, killing them in a single hit if they catch one unaware.
- A wild Ocelot does not stay an Ocelot once tamed. It becomes a Cat instead, with a random coat pattern.
How to Tame an Ocelot
- Approach slowly while holding Raw Cod or Raw Salmon, and feed it to a wild Ocelot standing still.
- It may take more than one try since Ocelots can refuse and run off even while you are feeding them.
- A successfully tamed Ocelot turns into a Cat and will start following you around.
Why Keep Ocelots?
- Taming Ocelots is the only way to get certain rare Cat coat patterns that cannot be bred.
- A tamed Cat (from an Ocelot) scares away Phantoms and Creepers just like any other Cat.
How to Breed Ocelots
- An Ocelot has to trust you first. Hold Raw Cod or Raw Salmon, let it come to you, and feed it until hearts appear. Each fish has a 1 in 3 chance to work.
- Once two Ocelots trust you, feed each of them Raw Cod or Raw Salmon to put them into love mode.
- Feeding Raw Cod or Raw Salmon to a baby Ocelot makes it grow up faster.
- Parents have to wait 5 minutes before they can breed again.
