What Is Phantom in Minecraft?

The Phantom is a flying hostile mob that appears above players who have gone too long without sleeping, swooping down to attack from above.

What Can Phantoms Do in Minecraft?

• Phantoms only start spawning once a player has gone 3 or more in-game days without sleeping in a Bed.
• They circle high above their target before diving down fast to attack, then flying back up out of reach.
• Several Phantoms often appear at once, which can make the swooping attacks hard to track all together.
• Defeating one drops Phantom Membrane, used for Slow Falling potions and mending a damaged Elytra.

How to Fight Phantoms

• Watch the sky and listen for their screech. It gives you a moment's warning before a dive attack lands.
• A sword or axe swung as it swoops past can hit it mid-attack, since it flies close to the ground during a dive.
• Fighting under a roof or overhang blocks their swooping path and makes them much easier to deal with.

How to Stay Safe from Phantoms

• Sleep in a Bed regularly. Phantoms stop spawning entirely once your insomnia timer resets.
• Building a solid roof over your base keeps Phantoms from being able to swoop down on you at all.
• If you must stay up, keep a shield or weapon ready, since Phantoms can appear even while you are busy with other tasks.
