What Is Pig in Minecraft?
Pigs are passive, pink mobs that wander grassy areas and can even be ridden with a Saddle.
What Can Pigs Do in Minecraft?
- Pigs wander harmlessly and never attack players, fleeing for a moment if they take damage.
- They follow a player holding a Carrot, Potato, or Beetroot from up to 6 blocks away.
- Placing a Saddle on an adult Pig lets you ride it, though you'll need a Carrot on a Stick to actually steer and speed it up.
- Using a Carrot on a Stick gives a short burst of speed, but it costs a bit of durability each time you boost.
- A ridden Pig steps up over 1-block ledges instead of jumping, and cannot float on water or lava like a Strider or Horse can.
- If lightning strikes a Pig, it transforms into a Zombified Piglin, and any Saddle it was wearing is lost.
How to Breed Pigs
- Feed a Pig a Carrot, Potato, or Beetroot to put it into love mode for breeding.
- Breeding is simple since Carrots and Potatoes are both easy crops to farm.
- Baby Pigs take about 20 minutes to grow up, and feeding them more crops speeds up their growth.
Why Keep Pigs?
- Pigs drop Raw Porkchop, a reliable food source once you have a breeding pen set up.
- A saddled Pig can be a fun, if slow and stormy-weather-unfriendly, way to get around.
