What Is Shulker in Minecraft?

The Shulker is a hostile mob that hides inside a shell shaped like the blocks around it, only appearing when it opens up to fire at you from a distance.

What Can Shulkers Do in Minecraft?

• A closed Shulker has 20 armor points and deflects arrows, but it loses all of that protection whenever its shell is open.
• It fires a slow bullet that tracks you through the air and applies Levitation for 10 seconds on a hit, which can send you floating upward into danger.
• If it loses the block it's attached to, drops below half health, or gets hit while its lid is open, it teleports to a new nearby spot.
• Hitting an open Shulker with a bullet has a chance to make it duplicate into a second Shulker of the same color.
• Shulker bullets can even follow you through a Nether Portal or End Gateway into another dimension.

How to Fight Shulkers

• Attack while its shell is open since that's the only time it takes full damage, instead of wasting hits on its armored shell.
• Watch your footing after getting hit. Levitation can lift you off cliffs or End islands into open sky.
• Destroying its bullet with an arrow, a thrown item, or a Shield stops the Levitation and damage entirely.

How to Stay Safe from Shulkers

• Place a block to break its line of sight before it fires another bullet, especially while you're near a ledge.
• Avoid fighting near open sky or cliff edges, since Levitation can carry you somewhere dangerous to fall from.
• Carry a Shield so you can block a bullet instead of taking the hit and the Levitation effect.
