What Is Slime in Minecraft?
The Slime is a hostile, cube-shaped mob found in the Overworld. It bounces toward players and splits into smaller slimes when you kill it, so one Slime fight can quickly turn into several.
What Can Slimes Do in Minecraft?
- A large Slime splits into 2 to 4 medium Slimes when it dies, and a medium Slime splits into 2 to 4 small Slimes the same way.
- Slimes hop around randomly until they spot a player or Iron Golem within 16 blocks, then they hop straight toward it, ignoring lava, cacti, and holes in the ground.
- Small Slimes don't deal any damage, but larger ones hurt on contact.
- Slimes can swim, climb ladders and scaffolding, and even ride in boats and minecarts.
- They take heavy damage from powder snow, much more than most mobs.
How to Fight Slimes
- Fight large Slimes in an open area so you have room to deal with the smaller Slimes that appear after it splits.
- Since Slimes move in straight lines and ignore obstacles, a simple wall or trench can stop them from reaching you.
- Small Slimes are harmless to fight since they can't hurt you, so they're an easy way to finish off a split group.
How to Stay Safe from Slimes
- Slime Chunks spawn Slimes regardless of light level, so building in one means Slimes can appear even in a lit base.
- In swamps, keeping the light level above 7 stops Slimes from spawning on the surface.
- Fences and walls work well against Slimes since they can't jump very high and move in straight lines.
