What Is Witch in Minecraft?
The Witch is a hostile mob that throws harmful potions and drinks helpful ones to survive. You'll usually find one guarding a Swamp Hut, but they also show up in raids and can appear if lightning strikes a Villager.
What Can Witches Do in Minecraft?
- Witches throw Splash Potions of Slowness, Poison, Weakness, or Harming depending on how far away and how healthy you are, and they never run out.
- They drink potions of their own, like Healing, Fire Resistance, Swiftness, and Water Breathing, to protect themselves while fighting.
- A Witch takes much less damage from poison, magic, and other potion effects than most mobs.
- During a raid, Witches throw Regeneration potions at other raiders and drink Healing potions when they're low on health.
- Ringing a bell near a Witch makes it glow for a few seconds, so you can spot it even behind walls.
How to Fight Witches
- Witches often drink Healing instead of Fire Resistance, so luring one into lava or fire can finish it off.
- Closing the distance quickly limits how many potions it can throw at you before you land a hit.
- Watch for the drinking animation. A Witch can't attack while it's drinking a potion, so that's a good moment to strike.
How to Stay Safe from Witches
- Avoid Swamp Huts at low health, since a Witch there will immediately start throwing Potions of Poison and Slowness.
- Keep Villagers away from thunderstorms when possible, since a lightning strike can turn one into a Witch.
- Bring Milk or a shield to counter Poison and reduce incoming potion damage during a raid.
