What Is Wolf in Minecraft?
The Wolf is a neutral animal that roams forests and taigas in packs. Wild wolves attack rabbits, sheep, foxes, and any kind of skeleton, but they leave players alone unless you provoke one.
What Can Wolves Do in Minecraft?
- Wolves can spot a player from up to 16 blocks away and will attack sheep, rabbits, foxes, and skeleton-type mobs on sight.
- Hitting a wild wolf angers its whole pack, and every wolf nearby joins the fight.
- Tamed wolves attack anything their owner attacks, and they fight back if their owner is hurt, except by creepers or ghasts.
- A tamed wolf teleports to its owner if it falls too far behind, as long as it isn't sitting or angry.
- Wolves can be healed by feeding them meat or fish once tamed.
How to Tame a Wolf
- Feed a wild wolf Bones until a red collar appears. Each bone has a 1 in 3 chance of taming it.
- Right-click a tamed wolf to make it sit and stay in place, or right-click again to have it stand and follow you.
- Dye the collar any of the 16 colors to tell your wolves apart.
- Equip Wolf Armor on a tamed wolf for extra protection, and repair it with Armadillo Scutes.
How to Breed Wolves
- Feed two tamed wolves any kind of meat while they're both at full health and standing to start breeding.
- The puppy takes on one parent's color at random and grows up in 20 minutes, which you can speed up by feeding it more meat.
- There's a 5 minute cooldown before the same wolves can breed again.
How to Fight Wolves
- A tamed wolf pack is great backup against skeletons, since they'll attack them without you lifting a sword.
- Angering one wild wolf angers the whole pack, so be ready to fight several at once or back away quietly.
- Wolves deal more damage on higher difficulties, so keep a shield handy if you're exploring a taiga on Hard.
Why Keep Wolves?
- A tamed Wolf attacks any mob you attack, and any mob that hurts you.
- Tamed Wolves have 20 hearts of health, and you can heal them by feeding them meat.
- Put Wolf Armor on a tamed Wolf to protect it. It is crafted from Armadillo Scutes.
- Make a Wolf sit when you want it to stay behind.
