What Is Zombie Villager in Minecraft?
A Zombie Villager is what's left when a Zombie turns a Villager into one of its own. It looks like a Villager wearing its old clothes, except green and tattered, and it fights just like a regular Zombie. The good news is that Zombie Villagers can be cured and turned back into Villagers.
What Can Zombie Villagers Do in Minecraft?
- Fights exactly like a normal Zombie, with the same attacks and the same detection range.
- Keeps its old Villager profession and outfit, just with a ragged, green look.
- Does not turn into a Drowned in water, unlike a regular Zombie.
- Can pick up items and weapons it finds on the ground, same as a regular Zombie.
- If it was holding a spear, it charges at you and then backs off before charging again.
How Villagers Get Infected
- If a Zombie, Husk, or Drowned manages to hit a Villager, there's a chance the Villager turns into a Zombie Villager.
- This never happens on Easy, happens half the time on Normal, and always happens on Hard.
- A Zombie Villager keeps the same profession and clothes the Villager had before it was infected.
How to Cure a Zombie Villager
- Throw a Splash Potion of Weakness at the Zombie Villager, or shoot it with an Arrow of Weakness.
- While it's still weak, feed it a Golden Apple by right-clicking it. It will start to shake.
- Wait. The cure takes between 3 and 5 minutes, and the Zombie Villager temporarily gets Strength during this time, so keep your distance.
- Placing Iron Bars or Beds nearby can randomly speed up the cure a little, though it's a small effect.
- Once cured, it turns back into a regular Villager and feels dizzy (Nausea) for 10 seconds.
- If you cured a Villager you had traded with before, it keeps its old trades. If not, it keeps its profession but could pick up a new job if it finds an empty workstation.
- Curing a Villager for the first time gives you a permanent discount on its trades, and nearby Villagers get a small discount too.
Experience
- Adult Zombie Villagers drop 5 XP when killed.
- Baby Zombie Villagers drop 12 XP when killed.
- XP is only dropped when a player or a tamed wolf makes the kill.
- Zombie Villagers that spawn with armor or weapons drop an extra 1 to 3 XP for each piece. Items they pick up don't count.
How to Stay Safe from Zombie Villagers
- Zombie Villagers need total darkness to spawn, so lighting up villages and paths with Torches helps keep them from appearing nearby.
- Fence in villages and keep doors shut at night. This also protects the Villagers inside from being infected in the first place.
- Fight one the same way you'd fight a Zombie. A sword or axe handles it in a few hits.
- If you want to save it, cure it instead of killing it. The curing process turns it back into a normal Villager.
