What Is Andesite in Minecraft?

Andesite is a speckled grey stone that generates in big blobs underground. It's a great building material and you can polish it for a sleeker look.

How Does Andesite Work?

  • It has the same blast resistance as regular Stone, so it's a solid, tough building block.
  • You need a pickaxe to mine it - punching it with your hand drops nothing.

How to Get Andesite

How to Mine Andesite

  • Use any pickaxe and it drops itself.
  • It generates in huge blobs underground in all biomes, mostly between Y=0 and Y=60.

How to Craft Andesite

  • Combine 1 Diorite and 1 Cobblestone in a crafting table to make 2 Andesite.

  • Emerald Price: 1 emerald for 16 (Mason, Journeyman)
  • Villager Trading: Stonecutter Mason

How to Use Andesite

What Can You Craft with Andesite?

  • Andesite Slab - half-height decorative block.
  • Andesite Stairs - great for steps and roofs.
  • Andesite Wall - a low fence made of stone.
  • Polished Andesite - a smooth, clean version with no speckles, great for modern builds.

Building with Andesite

  • Its grey colour pairs well with white concrete, iron blocks and dark oak wood.
  • Use the Stonecutter to cut it into slabs, stairs, walls and polished versions without wasting any material.

Trading Andesite

  • Journeyman Mason villagers will buy Andesite from you in exchange for Emeralds.
