What Is Beehive in Minecraft?

A Beehive is a player-crafted home for bees. It works just like a natural Bee Nest but you can place it wherever you like. Up to 3 bees live inside, fly out to collect pollen, and slowly fill the hive with honey.

How Does Beehive Work?

  • Up to 3 bees live inside and raise the honey level by going out to collect pollen.
  • Once the honey level hits 5, the hive looks sticky and is ready to harvest.
  • Harvesting or breaking it without calming the bees will make them sting you.
  • Place a lit Campfire within 5 blocks directly below the hive to calm the bees.
  • A Redstone Comparator next to it outputs a signal based on how full of honey it is (0–5).

How to Break Beehive

  • An axe is the fastest tool, but any tool works.
  • Use an axe with Silk Touch to collect it with bees still inside (bees stay calm).
  • Breaking without Silk Touch destroys the hive and angers the bees.

How to Use Beehive

How to Harvest Honey Bottle

  • Right-click the hive with an empty Glass Bottle when the honey level is 5.
  • Light a Campfire within 5 blocks directly below first to stop the bees attacking.

How to Harvest Honeycomb

  • Right-click the hive with Shears when the honey level is 5 - you get 3 Honeycomb.
  • Again, a Campfire below keeps the bees calm.

Beehive Tips

  • Automate harvesting with a Dispenser loaded with bottles or shears, powered by Redstone.
  • Move a natural Bee Nest to your base by mining it with Silk Touch and placing this crafted version nearby - or just move the nest directly.
  • In Java Edition, a carpet over the campfire still lets smoke through to calm the bees.
