What Is Black Banner in Minecraft?

A Black Banner is a tall, flat flag made from Black Wool. You can decorate it with up to 6 layers of patterns using a Loom, dyes and optional Banner Pattern items. It is great for faction flags, décor and personalising your base.

How Does Black Banner Work?

  • Place it on the ground - it can face 16 different directions.
  • Place it on a wall - it hangs flat against the surface.
  • Use a Loom to add patterns using dyes (and Banner Pattern items for special patterns).
  • Copy patterns from one banner to another using the Loom.
  • Apply it to a Shield in a crafting grid to decorate the shield with the same pattern.
