What Is Cake in Minecraft?

Cake is a decorative food block that you place on the ground and eat slice by slice. It has 7 slices and each restores 2 hunger points (1 bar). It cannot be eaten from your inventory - it must be placed first.

How Does Cake Work?

  • Place it on any solid block, then right-click to eat one slice at a time.
  • Each slice restores 2 hunger points and 0.4 saturation.
  • It has 7 slices in total - enough for 14 hunger points if eaten fully.
  • Once placed, it cannot be picked up again - breaking it drops nothing.
  • You can place a Candle on top of an uneaten cake to make a Candle Cake.

How to Collect Cake

  • Cake cannot be collected once placed. Breaking it drops nothing - eat it before moving on.

How to Use Cake

Using Cake

  • Place it in a shared base so multiple players can each take a slice.
  • Place a Candle on top for a birthday cake look - light it with Flint and Steel.
  • Use it as a decorative food block in kitchens, bakeries and dining rooms.

Cake Tips

  • Each Milk Bucket used in the recipe is returned empty, so you only need 3 buckets to keep crafting.
  • Cake cannot be stacked in your inventory - you can only carry one at a time.
