What Is Cauldron in Minecraft?

A Cauldron is a large iron pot that can hold water, lava or powder snow. It has several useful functions depending on what you fill it with.

How Does Cauldron Work?

  • Fill with water (right-click with a Water Bucket) to dye leather armour directly, wash dye off banners and shulker boxes, or clean stained glass panes.
  • Fill with lava (right-click with a Lava Bucket) - items dropped into lava cauldrons are destroyed.
  • Fill with powder snow (collects from snowfall in snowy biomes) to fill bottles or cool entities.
  • In Bedrock Edition, water cauldrons are also used to brew potions.
  • A pickaxe breaks it fastest.
  • Rain slowly fills empty cauldrons with water over time.
