What Is TNT in Minecraft?

TNT is a powerful explosive block that creates a large explosion when ignited. It is crafted from Gunpowder and Sand. Once ignited it flashes and starts blinking for about 4 seconds before exploding. The explosion destroys nearby blocks and damages mobs and players. It can be triggered with Flint and Steel, a Redstone signal, fire, or another explosion.

How Does TNT Work?

  • Right-click with Flint and Steel or apply a Redstone signal to ignite it.
  • After a 4-second fuse it explodes, destroying nearby blocks and dealing damage.
  • The explosion is affected by the explosion protection enchantment on armour.
  • In water the explosion does not break blocks but still damages mobs.
