What Is Barrel in Minecraft?

A Barrel is a round wooden storage block with 27 slots - exactly the same space as a single Chest. The big difference is that you can open it even when there's something on top!

How Does Barrel Work?

  • It holds 27 item slots, just like a Chest.
  • You can open it even with a block or slab sitting directly on top - great for tight builds.
  • A Hopper can automatically fill it from above or empty it from below.
  • A Comparator can read how full it is and output a Redstone signal based on that.
  • It's a Fisherman Villager's job site block - place one near an unemployed villager to make them a Fisherman.

  • Use it as a sensor in automatic sorting systems.

Barrel and Villagers

  • If a Fisherman Villager loses their job, place a Barrel nearby to give their job back.
