What Is Blackstone in Minecraft?

Blackstone is a rough, very dark rock that generates naturally in the Nether. It works exactly like Cobblestone for crafting - you can use it in all the same stone-tool and building recipes.

How Does Blackstone Work?

  • Use it anywhere a recipe calls for Cobblestone: stone pickaxes, axes, shovels, hoes, swords, furnaces, and brewing stands.
  • Cannot be used for Dispensers, Droppers, or Pistons - only standard cobblestone works for those.
  • A pickaxe is required - breaking it without one drops nothing.
  • Not flammable - it will not catch fire or burn.

How to Get Blackstone

How to Mine Blackstone

  • Found naturally in the Nether, especially in the Basalt Deltas biome and below the lava sea.
  • Also found inside Bastion Remnants.
  • Piglins can barter 8–16 Blackstone for a Gold Ingot.

How to Mine Blackstone

  • Use any pickaxe - wooden or better. Breaking without a pickaxe drops nothing.

Blackstone Trading with Villagers and Wandering Traders

  • Wandering Trader: No
  • Emerald Price: Not stated
  • Villager Trading: No

How to Use Blackstone

Crafting with Blackstone

  • Craft Blackstone Slabs, Stairs and Walls using the same recipes as stone variants.
  • Craft stone-tier tools (pickaxe, axe, shovel, hoe, sword) using it in place of Cobblestone.
  • Craft a Furnace or Brewing Stand with Blackstone instead of Cobblestone.
  • Craft 4 Blackstone into Polished Blackstone.
  • Use a Stonecutter for Polished Blackstone, Polished Blackstone Bricks and Chiseled Polished Blackstone.

Blackstone Tips

  • Great building material for dark Nether-themed or gothic builds.
  • It is renewable - you can get it from Piglin bartering.
