What Is Brewing Stand in Minecraft?

A Brewing Stand is the block you need to brew potions in Minecraft. It has three slots for glass bottles and one slot for an ingredient. You also need Blaze Powder as fuel to run it.

How Does Brewing Stand Work?

  • Fill up to three Glass Bottles with water from a cauldron or water source.
  • Add Blaze Powder to the fuel slot (top-left). One Blaze Powder lasts for 20 brews.
  • Add a brewing ingredient to the top slot and the stand will brew all three bottles at once.
  • Each brew takes about 20 seconds.
  • A pickaxe is the fastest tool for breaking it.

How to Use Brewing Stand

Using Brewing Stand

  • Start with Awkward Potions (Water Bottle + Nether Wart) as the base for most potions.
  • Add a secondary ingredient on top of Awkward Potions to create effect potions such as Strength, Speed or Healing.
  • Add Gunpowder to turn any potion into a Splash Potion (throwable).
  • Add Dragon's Breath to turn a Splash Potion into a Lingering Potion (leaves a cloud).
  • Add Glowstone Dust to make potions stronger (Level II).
  • Add Redstone Dust to make potions last longer.
  • Add Fermented Spider Eye to invert or corrupt most potions.

Brewing Stand Tips

  • Keep a stock of Blaze Powder - without it the stand won't work.
  • You can brew three potions at the same time to save Blaze Powder.
  • Nether Wart is essential for starting almost every potion recipe.
