What Is Blast Furnace in Minecraft?

A Blast Furnace is a specialised smelting block that works twice as fast as a regular Furnace - but only for ores, metal tools and armour. It uses fuel at the same double rate, so you get the same number of items per fuel unit, just in half the time.

How Does Blast Furnace Work?

  • Smelts raw ores, ore blocks, ancient debris, and iron, gold, chainmail, or copper tools and armour.
  • Does not smelt food - use a Smoker for that.
  • Twice as fast as a regular Furnace.
  • A pickaxe is required - mining without one drops nothing.
  • In a village, it turns a nearby unemployed villager into an Armorer.

  • Villager Trading: Blast Furnace Armorer

How to Use Blast Furnace

How to Use Blast Furnace

  • Place fuel in the bottom slot and the item to smelt in the top slot - it works the same as a Furnace.
  • Best for processing large amounts of ore quickly.
  • Cannot smelt sand, clay, food, or other non-metal items.

Blast Furnace Tips

  • Build one next to a Furnace: use the Blast Furnace for ores and the regular Furnace for everything else.
  • Placing it near an unemployed villager turns them into an Armorer who can trade useful armour.
