What Is Blue Ice in Minecraft?

Blue Ice is a dense, deep-blue block of very compacted ice. It is the slipperiest block in the game - even more slippery than regular Ice or Packed Ice - which makes it fantastic for building super-fast ice roads.

How Does Blue Ice Work?

  • Extremely slippery - players, mobs and items slide very fast on it.
  • Unlike regular Ice, Blue Ice does not melt near light sources.
  • Mobs will not spawn on it.
  • You need a Silk Touch pickaxe to collect it - breaking it without Silk Touch destroys it.
  • It does not turn into water when broken (unlike regular Ice).
