What Is Campfire in Minecraft?

A Campfire is a decorative fire block that provides light, cooks food and produces a smoke column. It can cook up to 4 food items at the same time and requires no fuel to run.

How Does Campfire Work?

  • Right-click to place up to 4 raw food items on it. Each item cooks in 30 seconds.
  • Gives off light level 15 (same as a torch) when lit.
  • Deals 1 damage per half-second to any entity standing on it.
  • Place a Hay Bale underneath to extend the smoke column to 24 blocks high - useful as a signal or beacon marker.
  • Can be put out with water or a Shovel, and re-lit with Flint and Steel or a Fire Charge.
  • An axe breaks it fastest. Without Silk Touch it drops 2 Charcoal; Silk Touch returns the Campfire.

Using Campfire

  • Cook up to 4 foods at once without any fuel - great for early-game cooking.
  • Use it as a permanent light source around your base or in builds.
  • Place a Hay Bale under it to send a tall smoke signal visible from far away.
  • Use it as a decorative fireplace in homes, camps and taverns.

Campfire Tips

  • Food placed on a campfire is cooked slowly (30 seconds per item) but requires no coal or wood fuel.
  • Bees that fly through campfire smoke become calmed, making it easier to harvest honey from hives.
  • A waterlogged campfire produces smoke but no fire and does not deal damage.
