What Is Chiseled Bookshelf in Minecraft?

A Chiseled Bookshelf is a special bookshelf block that can actually store books. You can place and retrieve up to 6 books in individual slots, and it emits a redstone signal based on which slot was last interacted with.

How Does Chiseled Bookshelf Work?

  • Right-click a slot to place or take a book (regular Books, Enchanted Books, Written Books and Book and Quills all work).
  • Holds up to 6 books - each slot is visible on the front face of the block.
  • When connected to a Comparator, it emits a signal strength of 1-6 based on the last slot that was used.
  • An axe is the fastest tool for breaking it. Breaking it drops the bookshelf and any books inside.
