What Is Activator Rail in Minecraft?

An Activator Rail is a special track that does things to Minecarts when a Redstone signal powers it. It's an important part of any Minecart system!

How Does Activator Rail Work?

When powered, it ejects any player or mob out of a Minecart passing over it.
When powered, it primes a TNT Minecart - which then explodes after 4 seconds.
When powered, it locks a Hopper Minecart so it can't collect items.
When there's no power, it unlocks a locked Hopper Minecart again.
One powered Activator Rail can also activate up to 8 more Activator Rails next to it in a chain.

How to Use Activator Rail

How to Use Activator Rail with Redstone

Place it on the track and connect it to a Redstone Torch, Lever or Button.
When powered, it activates Minecarts passing over it.
You can use it to automatically kick riders off at a station, or blow up a TNT trap!

Put it on top of a solid block.
Great for making automatic Minecart stations, mob launchers or fun traps.
