What Is Block of Copper in Minecraft?

A Block of Copper is a bright orange-gold block made from nine Copper Ingots. Left outside, it slowly oxidises over time and changes colour - from shiny orange, to speckled Exposed Copper, to Weathered Copper (teal), and finally to fully green Oxidized Copper.

How Does Block of Copper Work?

  • It oxidises through four stages: Block of Copper → Exposed Copper → Weathered Copper → Oxidized Copper.
  • Wax it with a Honeycomb to permanently stop it oxidising at its current stage.
  • Use an axe to remove the wax, or to scrape it back one oxidation stage.
  • A lightning bolt fully deoxidises nearby non-waxed copper blocks.
  • A stone pickaxe or better is required - other tools drop nothing.

Building with Block of Copper

  • Great for a modern or steampunk look - use it fresh and shiny or let it weather to green for a classic patina.
  • Wax it at any stage with a Honeycomb to lock in that colour permanently.
  • Scrape off wax or oxidation with an axe to go back one stage.
  • Use a Stonecutter for extra cutting options.

Block of Copper Tips

  • Waxed Oxidized Copper gives a deep teal colour that stays forever.
  • Placing copper near lightning rods can accelerate or reverse oxidation with lightning strikes.
